National Science Day celebrated

This is part of the three-day celebration on Festival of Science' to mark the celebration of National Science Day will kick start at GSC, under the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Gujarat.

Ahmedabad: First set of images supplied by Terrain Mapping Camers, the scientific instrument developed in support of Ahmedabad based Space Application Centre, ISRO is functioning well to map topography of both near and far side of the Moon- stated Deputy Director of Sensors Development Area at SAC, Ahmedabad, AS Kiran Kumar during a special interaction session on National Science Day at Gujarat Science City on Saturday.

Kumar has played a key role in design and development of the Terrain Mapping Camera and Hyper spectral Imager payloads of Chandrayaan-1.
Kumar says, "High resolution mapping of complete lunar surface will help to understand the evolution processes and allow detailed study of regions of scientific interests. The digital elevation model available from TMC would improve upon the existing knowledge of Lunar Topography."

On the activities, senior scientist at GSC, Narottam Sahoo, said, "Science city will be organising several more activities and programmes round the year to inspire and encourage the younger generation by involving large number of school and college students, teachers, scientists, researchers and media."
National Science Day is observed every year on February 28 to mark the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman on February 28th, 1928, who brought the first Nobel Prize for the country in Physics in 1930.
