Mumbai fire kills 27-year-old Ahmedabad CA

AHMEDABAD: Yasha Shah Thakkar (27), a chartered accountant from Ahmedabad, was one of the victims of the blaze that broke out at Lower Parel in Mumbai on Thursday night.
Six months ago, providence had saved Yasha and her husband Alaap who were trapped in a flaming sedan on the SG Road. Yasha and Alaap had met while they were studying for the CA course.They fell in love and married. Yasha cleared her finals and became a CA last year; Alaap is still pursuing studies.
On Thursday, Yasha was on a trip to Mumbai and was waiting for Alaap to join her on Friday morning. The couple was to celebrate the New Year’s eve together in Mumbai, the way they had last year. An hour before the fire broke out on Thursday, Yasha messaged Alaap saying that she was missing him. The couple had planned to stay in Mumbai for the next three days.
In Mumbai, Yasha had been staying with her aunt. Yasha had gone for dinner to the restaurant in Lower Parel with her cousin Mansi her friends. Mansi and her friends survived with minor injuries, but Yasha got trapped inside the restaurant and died due to suffocation.
Yasha’s uncle Devendra Thakkar said that both the sisters were very close and Mansi though not seriously injured, is in a state of shock. “She is not even crying,” said Thakkar. He said after the fire broke out, a huge bamboo structure came crashing on the terrace where the group was sitting and to escape they ran towards the exit. That was when Yasha and Mansi were separated. “Yasha ran away from the exit and got trapped,” said Thakkar. Her body was brought to her matrimonial home in Bopal-Ambli on Friday evening.
Yasha’s maternal uncle, Ashish Shah, who was to leave for London on Friday morning, cancelled the trip. He remembered Yasha as a caring person. “She was full of life. She wished to be a model.”
