Motera: hunting ground for record-seekers
AHMEDABAD: The Sardar Patel stadium at Motera has been the scene of some of the most memorable cricket records in India's cricket history.
It was here that Sunil Gavaskar scored his world recordbreaking 10,000th Test run, Kapil Dev smashed New Zealander Richard Hadlee's Test bowling mark and Sachin Tendulkar blasted his first double century in Tests.

During the third Test of the current series which will be played here December 18-22, Sachin will be honoured for scoring his 35th Test century and Anil Kumble will be felicitated for playing his 100th Test match, both by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA)...
...GCA president Narhari Amin said that newly elected BCCI chief Sharad Pawar will preside over the felicitation function here. On March 7, 1987, Sunil Gavaskar lit up a tall-scoring draw against Pakistan at Motera by scoring 63 runs in India's first innings and becoming the world's highest Test run-getter.
On February 8, 1994, Kapil Dev had Sri Lanka's Hasan Tillekaratne caught by Sanjay Manjrekar to eclipse Richard Hadlee's Test world record of 431 wickets and left arm finger spinner Venkapathy Raju bagged his biggest haul in Tests (11 for 125) and helped India record an innings victory and a 3-0 series triumph.
It was the first time since 1928 that a team was duplicating England's feat of winning Tests by an innings thrice in a row. It was also India's sixth straight innings victory at home. Sachin Tendulkar also hit 29 boundaries in making his first Test double hundred at Motera in October 1999 against New Zealand.
