Modern Gandhians felicitated
Ahmedabad: They come from all walks of life, range from highly educated to primary school graduates, work in metros like Bengaluru but also the conflict zone of Bastar, and have varied fields of work ranging from rural economy to water conservation. What connects the 15 winners of the maiden ‘Gandhi Award’, which comes with a a citation and Rs 51,000 cash award, is their faith in the Gandhian way of transforming society.
Gujarat Vidyapith and the US-based Gandhian Society on Saturday organized an event at Vidyapith to felicitate thes 15 individuals from seven Indian states for their exemplary work at the grassroots level.
The awardees included Chandan Pal (Kolkata), Shilpa Vaishnav (Virampur), Nilam Patel (Khoba), Shailesh Singhal (New Delhi), Parul Dandikar (Vadodara), Jaldeep Thakar (Pedhamali), Jayesh Raval (Patadi), Bharati (Chhattisgarh), John Chelladurai (Jalgaon), Anand Malligavad (Bengaluru), Dipika Raval (Ahmedabad), Radhekrishna (Agra), Debasis Majmudar (Tripura), Suresh Punadiya (Zarda) and Bachu Dedun (Banaskantha).
The awards were conferred by Elaben Bhatt, chancellor, and Anamik Shah, vice-chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith.
