AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited may be planning to roll out services on Phase I of the project by August, but according to the state government,

GMRC

is yet to acquire 0.48 hectares of land for Phase I.

In reply to a question by Rakesh Shah, the BJP MLA from Ellisbridge, the state government said total land to be acquired was 3.01 hectare and of 0.48 hectares remains to be acquired in Ahmedabad city.

The reply said that in the last two years, GMRC acquired 1.98 hectares of land. In reply to a question on how much compensation was paid for acquiring the land, the government said Rs 64.16 crore was paid as compensation for the acquisition.

To a question by the BJP MLA from Amraiwadi,

Jagdish Patel

, the government said that for the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar stretch, or

Phase II

of the project, about 445 square metres of land is being acquired. The government said that since the acquisition is underway, the amount of compensation cannot be estimated yet.

GMRC officials who asked not to be named said that all land to be acquired was for metro stations. The entire project is an elevated corridor, barring the stretch passing through the walled city in Ahmedabad, and hence there is no need to acquire land for the elevated corridor or the underground stretch. The land needed for the depot was acquired from the government, the officials said.
