Ahmedabad:

Meghmani Finechem Ltd

(

MFL

), on Wednesday commissioned its epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant with 50,000 tonne per annum of installed capacity. This is the country’s first

ECH

plant.
An estimated 80% of ECH is consumed for manufacturing of epoxy resin which is further used in industries such as paint, automotives, construction material, windmill, adhesives and electronics, among others. The remaining consumption goes towards various applications in the pharma sector, water treatment and paper chemical makers. At present, ECH is completely imported and therefore, setting up of MFL’s plant will help consumers reduce import- dependence.
Maulik Patel, chairman and managing director, MFL said, “We have commissioned India’s very first ECH plant based on glycerol process where major raw material, glycerine, is 100% renewable resource. Due to this, there will be lower consumption of energy and water and will be saving on carbon footprint.”
