Ahmedabad: The BJP-led political wing of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will select the mayor, the new standing committee chairman on Monday at its general body meeting.
The term of Hitesh Barot, the outgoing chairman of the standing committee, ended on Wednesday.
AMC began accepting forms from councillors wanting to join the new standing committee and elect its new chairperson.
Fourteen councillors had applied for the various committees.
Sources said that Jatin Patel from Ghatlodia ward, who heads the water and sewerage committee, is one of the favourites and may become the new standing committee chairman.
Other likely candidates are Devang Dani from Bodakdev ward and Pritesh Mehta from Paldi ward. Sources also said that the mayor’s position may go to a woman councillor from the city’s eastern part, while the chairman’s position may go to a councillor from the city’s west.
The standing committee has 12 members, including the chairman.
