Ahmedabad: What will happen if the Marvel Cinematic Universe collided with Indian mythology to form an entirely new universe? For a start, Loki may find his match in the witty and cunning Shakuni, and Sersi may find a friend in Trijata over their shared love for nature. And, what if these characters get amalgamated? You don’t have to wonder any more as CEPT students tackled the challenge to not just create new characters but also design sets to match their vision.
As part of their academic assignment, the students of ‘Fictional Spaces’ studio merged
Sita
and the Scarlet Witch to create the ‘Divine Power’. They also fused Gandhari and
Nick Fury
to design the ‘Vengeance of Blood’.
Prof
Jay Thakkar, the tutor of the studio, said the idea was to help students understand how the characters are built and how their surroundings reflect who they are. “We visited famous studios in Mumbai to understand set designing. Each student created multiple frames for their characters to inhabit. It had a specific colour palette and artefacts associated with the characters,” he said.
The panels also depicted different art styles inspired by the neon suit of
Captain Marvel
, the purple outfit of alien assassin
Gamora
, and the black of Black Panther’s uniquely crafted vibranium-weave habit.
The exhibition was part of CEPT Exhibition for Summer 2022. which had over 1,100 exhibits from multiple studios.
