AHMEDABAD: A 41-year-old govt schoolteacher was murdered by three persons, including the husband of the woman he was alleged to be romantically involved with, in Viramgam town on Monday.
The victim, Naresh Chavda's daughter and the woman's son were engaged a year ago. However, the families called off the engagement, allegedly, after discovering the affair.
Police said that Chavda, a teacher at the KB Shah School in Viramgam, allegedly, got romantically involved with the woman just two months after the engagement ceremony of their wards.
They were living together under a mutual agreement in the town's Mahalaxmi Pol, much to the resentment of the woman's husband, Kala Gohil. Gohil and Chavda are distant relatives.
According to police, a seething Gohil seeking revenge conspired to kill Chavda and involved his friends, Ajit Gohil and Jeshang Kataria, in the plot. He knew that Chavda left for school early every morning.
Around 7.30am on Monday, the trio intercepted Chavda near Laxmi Petrol Pump when he was going to the school on a scooter. They launched a brutal assault by repeatedly striking him with wooden sticks and iron pipes, according to the FIR filed by Chavda's cousin, Nanu, at the Viramgam police station.
As people started gathering at the scene, the three fled in their car.
Jagdish, another cousin, informed Nanu about the attack. Rushing to the spot, Nanu found Chavda severely injured and took him to a private hospital in a rickshaw.
During the journey, Chavda identified his attackers, informing him that they were motivated by personal enmity.
Due to the severe injuries, Chavda was referred to SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, where he succumbed late on Monday.
Viramgam police have arrested the three assailants and charged them with murder and other related offences under the BNS.
The accused are engaged in farming.
