AHMEDABAD: A 32-year-old man from Naranpura committed suicide by jumping into Sabarmati river. His family later told investigators that he was under stress after being named in a police case. He had gone missing on Friday.
According to Shahpur police, body of Ramesh Modi, a resident of Bhimjipura, was fished out from near Dadhichi Bridge on Sunday morning.
After his identity was established, police contacted his family when they got to know that Modi was named in a case of harassment by his wife three days ago.
"Modi and Bhavna, his wife, had a love marriage three years ago. On September 3 when he returned home, he found his house open, his belongings rummaged through and a few valuables missing. When he approached police, he got to know that his wife, who had been to his in-laws' residence, had named him for mental and physical harassment. Police had released him but he was asked to come to the police station whenever his questioning was required. The case is still under investigation," said a police official.
