Man held with pistol, cartridges

Ahmedabad: A 33-year-old man from Deesa in Banaskantha was arrested in Chandkheda on Tuesday with a US-made pistol and live cartridges. The accused, Kishor Panchal, is wanted in an earlier case of theft registered with Ranip police. A complaint regarding Tuesday's incident was filed with the detection of crime branch (DCB) on Wednesday. The crime branch got a tip-off that Panchal was driving from Zundal to Sabarmati in a blue car with an illegal weapon. The team intercepted the vehicle with false numberplate and recovered a pistol marked ‘Made in US' concealed near his waist. Five cartridges were found in his trouser pocket. He told police that he bought the firearm from a man in Palanpur and had stolen the car from a showroom in Vijapur 10 months ago. tnn
