Ahmedabad: A 52-year-old man from
Naranpura
on Wednesday filed a police complaint alleging that a man who introduced himself as an army officer duped him of Rs 49,000 on the pretext of buying tea leaves and coffee from him.
Devendra Sharma, a resident of
Lucky Apartments
in Naranpura, in his FIR said that he runs a groceries business. On February 19, 2021,
Sharma
received a call from an unknown number and a man introduced himself as a military officer,
Joravar Singh
, and sought price details of coffee and tea leaves. Sharma told him he would need advance payment to send a consignment of tea leaves and coffee. To this, the man sent Sharma a barcode and told Sharma to scan it for the payment. When Sharma scanned it, he lost Rs 10,000 first.
Sharma scanned seven more messages with barcodes and ended up losing a total of Rs 48,995 on February 20, 2021, to the man who purported to be an army officer. The accused then went incommunicado . He thus approached police in December 2021. After about three months, Naranpura police registered a complaint. tnn
