Man cheated of 5.5L in online car deal

Ahmedabad: Bopal police on Monday registered a case of cheating and offences under the Information Technology Act against three persons — Arpit, Pradip Shah and Vivek Shah — for allegedly defrauding a Mansa resident of Rs 5.5 lakh by advertising a car on an online marketplace but not providing delivery after payment. Satyakam Barot, 51, a resident of Mansa, in his FIR stated that on August 29 he came across an advertisement for a car numbered GJ-01-KV-8153. He said he and his friend Govind contacted the advertiser, who identified himself only as Arpit. Barot said Arpit sent him the location of the car, at Aryan Gloria in South Bopal. At the location, Vivek Shah and his father Pradip Shah showed him the vehicle. Barot decided to buy it and the price was fixed at Rs 5.5 lakh. He then called Arpit, who told him that his representative would come with the documentation, and he should send the money to Mahidharpura in Surat through an angadia firm. He said he made the payment and waited. When he called the Shahs, they said they did not want to sell their vehicle at that price, and that Arpit had cheated Barot.
