vadodara: a feast is in store for music and urdu poetry lovers here as the city plays host to luminaries like nida fazli, basher badra, shim qaf nizam and ghazal singer sudhir narayan who will pay tributes to mirza ghalib on his death anniversary, february 15. the great poet is known for his sensitive, creative and often ruthlessly critical poetry. he died the same year that mahatma gandhi was born 1869, said s k jha of komal nishad, an organisation of poetry and music lovers.
it has lined up a a two-day fare at the c c mehta auditorium. on february 15, at ''mushaira'' nida fazli, basher badra and shim qaf would pay tributes to mirza ghalib with a rendition of ghazals and nazms of ghalib, says jha. on february 16 sudhir narayan would regale audience with ghalib ghazals. ghalib belonged to agra but moved to delhi. his period was the golden era of urdu poetry and his contemporaries included ustad joq, mommin khan and king bahadur zafar. but ghalib emerged as a doyen of urdu poetry.
