AHMEDABAD: Darlie Koshy, director of National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad launched his book, 'Indian Design Edge' on Friday afternoon at the institute.
The book, which has Nano on the cover and Ratan Tata's foreword, covers the journey of Indian design over the last 50 years. Published by Delhi-based publication Roli Books, 'Indian Design Edge' covers the milestones of design in India, where Koshy cites case studies like Titan slim watches and Samsung.
"The argument that I have tried to put across is that inspite of an extremely rich design heritage, our country has not been able to establish a successful relationship between design and business, design and management, design and technology and design with brands. Indian design has the capacity to develop brands that are culturally significant and emotionally satisfying," said Koshy.
Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma, who released the book, said, "Design was nothing beyond fashion designing for me, even though my own granddaughter is a designer herself. It was only when I came for this launch that I realised, design is much more that just apparel. This book will help a lot of people like me who do not know about design and the young designers who need direction" .
