Kids’ fight over swing triggers brawl between adults in Shela

Ahmedabad: A fight between children over the use of a swing in a residential society in Shela allegedly snowballed into an ugly physical fight involving their two families on Saturday.

According to police, the argument began when a 5-year-old girl was allegedly stopped from sitting on a swing. Minutes later, the disagreement between children turned into a confrontation between adults.

In a complaint with Bopal police, the girl’s mother alleged that she had taken her daughter to the society play area around 7pm, where several children were already playing. She alleged that after a boy got off the swing and her daughter attempted to sit on it, but the boy suddenly returned and tried to pull the girl off the swing.

The complainant stated that she objected to the child’s behaviour and told him that her daughter had already been waiting for her turn. She said that she moved to another section of the play area but returned to the swings around 7.45pm. At that point, she alleged that the boy’s mother and two relatives confronted her and questioned why she had scolded their son.

The woman claimed she tried to explain that she was only speaking to the child and had no intention of creating a scene. However, the argument allegedly escalated.

According to the FIR, the boy’s mother allegedly abused her in public and started hitting her. The complainant alleged that one woman pulled her hair and slapped her, causing an injury near her nose. She further claimed that a male relative joined the altercation, slapped her and abused her during the scuffle.

The complainant also alleged that her clothes tore near the neck during the fight and her gold chain went missing in the chaos.

She stated that other residents gathered at the spot and her husband later arrived, after which the situation calmed down. Before leaving, the trio allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she ever spoke to their son again.

The complainant submitted CCTV footage from the society to police as part of the case.
