AHMEDABAD: The suspense over who will file nominations for the upcoming elections of Karnavati Club finally ended late on Saturday. The club will hold elections for some 11 directors on September 17. Latest reports on Saturday suggested that some 15 forms have been submitted to the club so far, with a majority of them being from the existing directors.
Suspense loomed over the nominations till the last day, as members of both – Power Panel as well as Freedom Panel – were only determined to file their nominations on the last day.
Till Friday, only one form was submitted and that was by Dr Paresh Ruparel. One of the female members, Silva Patel, also filed her nomination on Saturday. On the other hand,
Nimesh Patel, who gave a tough fight against the Power panel the last year, also filed his nomination.
Ideally there have to be at least 22 nominations filed for 11 posts of the directors; however, with merely 16 nominations, club sources said that some of the directors are likely to be elected uncontested. However, the picture will be clear on Monday, which is the last day for withdrawal of nominations. The final list of candidates will be declared later on the same day itself.
A major brownie point for the Power Panel could be the land deal for the new club premises, which is currently being negotiated. If all goes well and the incumbent management manages to strike the deal, the announcement thus made at the club’s annual general meeting could work in the panel’s favour. Karnavati Club’s AGM is scheduled on September 16.
