Karanpal, Radhapriya win titles
Ahmedabad: Third seed Karanpal Jadeja of Bhavnagar played scintillating table tennis as he toppled the top seed Akshit Salva of Ahmedabad to win the men’s final at the Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2023 here on Monday. Karanpal, who won the Surat leg recently, started confidently against the fancied Salva and took the first game. Though Akshit fought back and won the second and fourth games, the Bhavnagar paddler won the match 4-2 with ease. Gandhinagar’s star paddler Radhapriya, the second seed, lived up to the expectations as she claimed the women’s title with a 4-0 victory over fifth seed Oishiki Joardar of Ahmedabad. There was some consolation for Oishiki as she won the U-19 girls title beating second seed Riya Jayswal 4-0.Ahmedabad’s Mouboni Chatterjee bagged double crown. She won the sub-junior girls title, upsetting the top seed and city mate Jiya Trivedi 3-2. Mouboni, seeded eighth in the U-17 girls’ event, then took out Navsari’s third seed Siddhi Bulsara 3-0 to win her second title of the tournament.Top seed Armaan Shaikh of Aravalli won the U-19 boys title with a comfortable 4-1 win over arch-rival second seed Burhanuddin Malubhaiwala of Surat. There was more good news for Aravalli as Janmejay Patel, the third seed, fought well to defeat fourth seed Aayush Tanna of Surat to take home the boys U-17 title. Hosts district Ahmedabad walked away with the overall championship trophy. He defeated Bhavya Pipaliya 2-1 in final of the junior billiards category of main rounds. It was a hard-fought match but in the decider frame, Mayur played like a true champion to secure the victory. He had earlier won the sub-junior snooker title by beating Porbandar’s Vats Khetrapal in final.In the senior snooker category, Brijrajsinh Zala of Rajkot caused a big upset by beating formidable Het Patel of Ahmedabad in black ball decider frame. After losing the first frame, Het tried hard in the next and managed to win the second frame. In the decider, Brijrajsinh was 20 points down with 25 remaining on the table but potted every ball to win the frame and the match.Results: Junior billiards final: Mayur Garg beat Bhavya Piplaiya 2-1; senior snooker: Brijrajsinh Zala beat Het Patel 3-2, Rutul Pambhar beat Kaval Panchal 3-1; Naimesh Jadhav beat Nakul Patel 3-1; Nilesh Chauhan beat Abhishek Raval 3-0; Ketan Sabhachandani beat Dishant Thakor 3-2; Fazal Patel beat Jeet Bhojani 3-1; Tushar Sahay beat Harsh Paida 3-0; Nisarg Patel beat Pratik Bhoot 3-0; Karmesh Patel beat Rahul Waghela 3-0
