The duo had met at Chinmay's residence at around 11 pm to participate in a midnight birthday bash of a common friend.
Chinmay's father Jankar Kanani told media on Friday that his wife had been to Rajkot to attend a social function, while he had gone to sleep at around 11 pm when the boys were going out in the car. He had purchased the car involved in the accident 10 days ago and its registration number was yet to come.
“I did not know that Chin may had taken the car. I got to know about the accident around 3 am when I got a call from police station about the accident,“ he said, adding that Milan's father works with an auto company .

Role of cops unde scanner
As the city traffic police have constituted 14 traffic police stations -one each for a police division, generally comprising two to four police station areas, they are entrusted with investigation o road accident cases. However, in the past few incidents, it is always the local police that arrive on the spot earlier and try to maintain the crime spot -something also seen on Friday morning. The first accident that took place around 2.15 am could be registered only at 7.45 am when the staff reported on duty. Officials have pointed out that the stations simply don't have adequate staff as against the requirement of 44 sub-inspectors, currently there is only one subinspector for every police station that conducts investigations.
