Japanese companies list their demands for DMIC
Ahmedabad: Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project has the potential for making Delhi-Mumbai region as a first class export base in Asia. But, for it to achieve its potential, before they invest and fund the project, Japanese companies had listed certain concerns, expectations and requirements. Some of these could include minor amendments even in Motor Vehicle Act, as was suggested in one of the negotiations.
These expectations, according to sources, are among the gamut of issues being negotiated as a part of the Indo-Japanese Economic Partnership Agreement (EAP).

The 10th round of EAP negotiations were held in October last year.
The first task force meeting, to develop the idea of DMIC and for catalysing and promoting various preparatory works related to it, was held in Tokyo on May 25, 2007. The task force is co-chaired by Indian and Japanese senior government officials.
Various Japanese academic, consulting, industry and business groups and financial delegates from 18 firms participated in the meeting. Delegates from Tokyo stock exchange were also present.
The DMIC project is being considered as a first ever mega regional development project of its kind and is expected to be a breakthrough in India's infrastructure development with unprecedented co-ordination between Central and state governments.
