Ahmedabad: The
Ranip
police have registered a case against two undertrials lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail after a cellphone was found with one of them. The device was found tied to inmate Brijesh Bhatt’s leg during an inspection.
Jayanti Prajapati
, the jailor in charge, filed a complaint against
Bhatt
and
Nitin Yadav, another inmate, who had passed on the cellphone to Bhatt.
Prajapati stated in his FIR that they found the cellphone with Bhatt, lodged in barrack 10/22, during a surprise check in the new jail on Monday. It had a battery and a sim card.
During interrogation, Bhatt told the jail officials that Yadav had given him the device. Yadav reportedly confessed to his crime.
Subsequently, Ranip police booked them under
IPC
section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and section 114 (abettor present when crime committed) along with other sections of the Prisons Act for bringing prohibited items into the jail. The jail authorities have recommended forensic examination of the seized device.
