ahmedabad: a case has been registered and an inquiry instituted on chief minister narendra modi''s alleged insulting references to the national flag during his republic day address at anjar in kutch district. a complaint was filed by a resident of bhuj, jaivirsinh jadeja, at the court of the judicial magistrate of anjar on thursday, after which the magistrate directed an inquiry under section 2 of the prevention of insult to national honour act and section 156 (3) of the crpc.
following this direction, a case was registered at the anjar police station the same day and a report is due to be submitted within a month before the court. the gpcc had levelled allegations against modi claiming that he had referred to the tricolour as a ''piece of cloth''. this was recorded by complainant jadeja on a walkman which he was carrying on his person, and the cassette has been submitted to the court as evidence. the hearing is scheduled for march 14.
