Indie musicians in Gujarat take on to recording studios

For every profession, there is a definite destination. While all actors dream of the silver screen, all singers, professional or amateur, dream of going behind the mic in a recording studio. And that is exactly what indie musicians in the state are doing. Whether it’s for their singles for their social networking pages, their album or even cover versions, these musicians are taking their music seriously by doing it as professionals do. And Gujarat has now played an important role by making more recording studios and making better recording facilities more accessible.
Quality over convenience
A number of softwares available are available to help you record your own songs at home with ease. But those who believe in quality music, feel recording in a studio brings out better quality in songs. “Those who are serious about their music would definitely want to record in a studio,” says musician Mayank Kapadia. He adds, “You can easily record on your laptop and put it online, and you can reach out to online audiences and short term fame. But if you want to take music seriously and do it professionally, good sound is important, which you will get only in a recording studio.”
Preparation and results matter
Recording in a studio not only helps musicians bring out better quality products, it also helps them analyse their talent and better themselves. Nishad Shah, who has recorded a number of cover versions in studios says, “Every single note, be it in your singing or if you are playing an instrument, comes out nice and clear. So you have be well prepared before you enter the studio. Even the smallest mistake gets recorded. So it pushes you to prepare well and helps you be a better musician.”
Moolah talk
Everything comes for a price, but things come at an affordable price for these musicians. Jigar Purohit, who owns a studio in Vadodara, says, “The cost varies depending on the complexity of the project and the requirement. On an average, studios across Gujarat charge between ` 450 - 500. If you go to Mumbai, the rates skyrocket northwards.” The trend is surely catching up and with the means available, it seems like the beginning. Singer Aditya Gadhvi says, “In recent times, more and more people are now going to studios even for simple cover versions. This is a positive trend.”
Let the music play
Keeping aside all technicalities, musicians swear by the fact that music is all about feeling and living it. For taking it to the world, one might need all the resources, but it’s the heart that creates it. Jainam Modi, who recently recorded a single with Divya Kumar in Ahmedabad, says, “Good sound is important for good music. Many youngsters do record on their laptops, but the results are short-lived.” He adds, “Whether it is in a recording studio or at home, those who want to play should simply create music and the means will find their way.”
