AHMEDABAD: A 35-year-old restaurateur from Satellite, Aashil Shah, on Friday filed a complaint with Navrangpura police, accusing his business partner, Yash Agrawal, a resident of Shahibaug, of cheating him out of Rs 7.34 lakh by inflating bills.
Shah's complaint states that he was running a restaurant in partnership with Saurav Raj, Kiran Bhansali and Yash Agarwal.
He and Raj held 37.5% of the restaurant each. Bhansali and Agarwal are partners in Urban Dining LLP, which had a share of 25% in the restaurant.
The complainant stated that he and Saurav had invested Rs 18 lakh each, and Bhansali and Agarwal had invested Rs 12 lakh, of which Rs 10 lakh was invested by Agarwal. The restaurant was being run by Agarwal and he had the books of account.
In November 2021, Agarwal sent details of expenses by email, showing expenditure of Rs 50.43 lakh. The complainant stated that after that Agarwal did not give any further statement of expenditure nor did he have any bills for the purchases.
In December 2022, Yash Agrawal's father, Rajeshkumar, came to the restaurant and took away the coffee machine and television, saying they belonged to him. The other partners later realized that Agarwal had bought furniture from his father, saying he had purchased it from the manufacturer.
On checking the bills, they found that the coffee machine was shown to have been purchased for Rs 1.98 lakh, However, Rajeshkumar produced a bill showing the purchase value was Rs 1.55 lakh.
On examining another bill, for goods worth Rs 7.72 lakh from Aditya's Equipment, it emerged that the true value paid had been just Rs 2.36 lakh. The complainant stated that Yash Agarwal had thus cheated them out of Rs 7.34 lakh by producing inflated bills for materials he had purchased.
