AMBAJI: Following the unearthing of plots to assassinate him, chief minister Narendra Modi on Saturday blamed Pakistan’s President General Pervez Musharraf for conspiring to eliminate him.
He said: ‘‘Miyan tumko maloom nahi hai, hazaron Narendra Modi khade ho jayenge’’ (You can kill one Modi but thousands of other Modis will rise again).
Modi began the fourth phase of the controversial ‘‘Gaurav Yatra’’ from this temple town in north Gujarat on a sober note speaking about women’s upliftment.

However, when the people’s interest began to wane, he changed gear to Akshardham and Godhra. ‘‘The vote-hungry politicians are saying Akshardham was attacked because I made critical remarks about Musharraf,’’ Modi said.
Modi said, ‘‘Musharaf’s ‘taporias’ (hoodlums) will not succeed in their mission.’’ He also attacked the Congress leaders and said ‘‘their statements are shown on Pakistan TV’’.
In his opinion, the terrorists had attacked Akshardam for two reasons: for stopping Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections and for seeking the release of 10 hard-core terrorists from jail to give them a safe passage to Pakistan. He said their original motive was to take some people hostage and to pressurise the administration into fulfilling the demands. However, the terrorists were killed.
Union minister Uma Bharati said violence did not take place after Akshardham because unlike Godhra, the temple incident was roundly condemned, by all including Sonia Gandhi.
