PALANPUR:
Mount Abu, the hill station nest in the Aravalli mountain range and falling under the Sirohi district of Rajasthan recorded the season's lowest temperature of -6 degrees Celsius. This according to district officials is the lowest temperature recorded at the popular hill station in over three decades.
Mount Abu municipality's president Jitu Rana said, "The temperature today (Sunday) fell to -6 degrees Celsius, which is probably the lowest recorded temperature since 1994."
Normal life was disrupted as water in pipelines froze in some areas of the town.
The cold temperature also impacted the business of taxi drivers, who otherwise do brisk business during Uttarayan ferrying tourists, mainly from Gujarat.
Videos on social media showed thick layer of ice on cars parked outside houses and hotels. There was a thick layer of ice on the lawns.
The popular tourist spot Nakki Lake too was frozen partially. Only a few boats were seen ferrying tourists who dared to venture out in the freezing temperature. According to the local weather department, the temperature is likely to rise gradually over the week giving respite to people.
