Heading out for high spirits
AHMEDABAD: There is nothing like a 'spirited' festive celebration during Diwali. But in this dry state, you may be left munching dry fruits. So those wishing to raise a toast have rushed to Diu and Daman or Mount Abu and Udaipur. Of course, hoteliers there are smiling ear to ear as they making a killing in the rush season.
And going by the 'no vacancy' status in hotels in these places — mostly booked by visitors from Gujarat — it's obvious that most of us want a 'spirited Diwali'.

Occupancy in hotels in Daman is 100 per cent since Friday and majority of the rooms in various hotels have been booked by visitors from Gujarat, according to Raj Kumar of Cidade Daman. All rooms were booked well in advance, he added.
Silver Sand Resort is another Daman hotel to boast of 100 per cent bookings, which have been made by visitors from Gujarat till Labh Pacham on November 16, according to hotel staff Santosh Raj. Major influx of visitors from Gujarat is also being witnessed in Diu, with rooms having been booked from November 9 to 13, according to Aditya Dogra, a hotelier in Diu. And this despite the nearly three to four times hike in room tariffs.
Those heading for Mount Abu are luckier as bookings are not too much of a problem, according to Ashok Sharma, manager at Hotel Hilton.
The rush to Udaipur, on the contrary, is not just because of those seeking a chance to really 'celebrate' Diwali, but also due to the importance of visiting pilgrimages like Shrinathji, Nathdwara, Kankroli and Charbhuja in the vicinity.
