AHMEDABAD: Ghatlodia police investigating theft of an Audi Q5 car worth Rs 30 lakh arrested the absconding car driver Vijay Desai, 28, when he paid a clandestine visit to the city late on Thursday night.Desai told police that he had stole the high-end SUV to fund his remarriage.When he failed to sell it without ownership documents, he abandoned the car which was recovered by police from Botad on November 3.
The SUV was stolen from Jayesh Patel, a builder living in Ghatlodia, on September 29. Vijay was initially grilled by police after which he had went on leave in October and did a disappearing act. Police got suspicious and gathered more information after which they located Vijay's father in Botad who had the car but did not know that it was stolen.
BC Jadeja, inspector of Ghatlodia police station, said Vijay had fallen in love with a girl. “Since he is already married, he first decided to get a divorce and then marry his girl friend. He needed money for the divorce and remarriage. When he got an opportunity on September 29, he drove off with the SUV to Surendranagar,“ he said.
