AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court has granted
anticipatory bail
to a
sarpanch
from
Mahisagar district
who has been accused of rape and sexual harassment.
The HC granted relief to Babubhai Solanki, the sarpanch of Vadzampa group panchayat, after he expressed willingness to deposit Rs 50,000 with the court and assured that he was in no situation to flee the trial. His advocate Mehul Mehta submitted that even after Solanki is acquitted from rape charges, he would not claim the amount back and the money could be paid to the complainant woman, who has falsely accused the victim of sexual violence.
Solanki claimed innocence and said that the complaint was politically motivated. tnn
