AHMEDABAD: Surat-based paddler Harmeet Desai has been making steady progress at national and international circuit. He has been a regular in the Indian outfit for over a year now. Since he has made it to his maiden final of the national championship, he has gone on from strength to strength.
Having undergone an intensive camp for a fortnight at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, Harmeet, along with 10-member Indian table tennis contingent, has left for the World Championships to be held in Tokyo from April 28 to May 5.

The men’s team includes veteran paddler A Sharath Kamal, Anthony Amalraj, Soumyajit Ghosh and national champion Sanil Shetty. “Both Harmeet and Sanil have been in great form. I want them to translate this form into winning matches. I have watched Sharath in recent times and believe me, he is in great shape,” foreign coach Peter Engel, who will be accompanying the team, said.
“India finished 27 in the last Worlds (in 2012) in Germany. I am sure they will do better at Tokyo. I am really impressed with the way the boys have been preparing at the camp,” he said.
India men will open their campaign against Argentina on Monday.
Now is the time when Harmeet does well at the highest level of the game and win accolades from all quarters.
