AHMEDABAD: A 27-year-old man from the Satellite area of the city committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself due to harassment by two moneylenders, mentioned an FIR filed with Satellite police on Sunday.

Deceased Jigar Parmar’s father Karshan Parmar, a resident of Tulsi-Ekta Society in Satellite, accused two brothers named Tejas Vanol and Pratik Vanol, residents of Rajivanagar in Satellite, behind his son’s suicide.

Karsan, a daily wager, said in his FIR that Jigar was working with a private firm in Gheekanta and had taken Rs 5.47 lakh on the monthly interest of 10% from Tejas and Pratik around four months ago.

Karsan came to know about the loan taken by Jigar on December 17. When Jigar had gone to riverfront to commit suicide. However, his elder son Hitesh was aware and rescued Jigar then.

Jigar then told Karsan that he had already paid the loan amount.

But Tejas and Pratik were seeking Rs 3 lakh penalty from him. When Jigar refused to pay, they threatened to kill him and his family members and transfer his property, a house in Satellite, in their name. Jigar was fed up and had gone to his in-laws’ place and switched off his cellphone. On his family’s insistence, he returned on Tuesday. And the two again threatened him.

Karsan said that as Jigar did not respond to his wife’s calls on Wednesday, she told him to check on him. Karsan rushed to his house and found Jigar hanging from a ceiling fan. He rushed him to Civil Hospital where he was declared dead. Satellite police have registered a complaint of abetment to suicide against Tejas and Pratik and begun investigation.
