Gujarat’s MMR drops steadily over last five years
Gandhinagar: The maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Gujarat has been dropping steadily in Gujarat over the last five years, reflecting an improvement in risk associated with pregnancy among women.Figures provided by the Union government in the ongoing budget session of parliament said that according to the sample registration system (SRS) figures, the MMR in Gujarat fell from 87 in SRS 2015-17 to 57 in SRS 2018-20.MMR is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births due to pregnancy or termination of pregnancy. The maternal mortality rate is used to represent the risk associated with pregnancy among women.According to SRS 2018-20, Gujarat is placed 13th in the country, with 12 other states having a MMR higher than that of Gujarat. tnn
