Gujarat signs MoUs worth over 1,700 crore

In what is being seen as Gujarat's big push to become India's manufacturing hub, the state govt signed MoUs worth around Rs 1,700 crore at Gujarat SemiConnect 2026 in Gandhinagar. In his address, chief minister Bhupendra Patel said, "We are ready to build a complete semiconductor ecosystem, attract global partners and realize the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat through research, innovation and supply chain localisation. Gujarat is becoming a fast mover in semiconductor and chip manufacturing, driven by policy stability, transparency, ease of doing business and strong political will backed by world-class infrastructure coming up in Dholera and Sanand.Among the marquee MoUs are Hyspec Chemicals Private Limited, which signed a MoU to manufacture semiconductor-grade speciality chemicals; Japan's Hotayi Industries, which committed an investment of Rs 350-Rs 500 crore for a memory modules manufacturing unit in Sanand and Kaynes Technologies, which is in the process of setting up a plant in Sanand. It signed a MoU with SpectraGaze, eyeing a strategic investment of Rs 250 crore into start-ups.
Horiba will establish a research and development centre in Ahmedabad focused on semiconductor-grade mass flow meters and advanced materials. Kiansh/GnBS will set up gas abatement systems critical for chip fabrication facilities. Suchi Semicon signed a MoU with ROHM for technology cooperation. On the skilling front was the MoU with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) for a dedicated campus for advanced electronics and semiconductor courses at ITI-Chandkheda.CDAC, Bengaluru, will establish a ChipIN Extension Centre and a Centre of Excellence in VLSI design in Gujarat. A video announcement marked the commencement of Project Samarth in collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar, while Project Semicon Shield, led by SP-Ahmedabad, aims to secure and strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem. "A nano fabrication lab is being set up at IIT-Gandhinagar under the Samarth project to strengthen research and talent development," Patel added.
