Gujarat medical colleges call MCI biased
AHMEDABAD: Authorities of many medical colleges have cried foul at the Medical Council of India (MCI) not granting them permission for admissions from this academic year, and alleged discrimination on the grounds of former MCI president Ketan Desai belonging to Gujarat.Management of medical colleges, especially at Bhavnagar, Rajkot Surat and the college proposed by Gujarat Cancer Society in Ahmedabad say that the grounds on which the permission has been rejected are not very substantial so as to merit complete rejection."The deficienciespointed out by MCI are not major inadequacies meriting non-granting ofpermission for admission. Medical colleges in other states are allowedpermission despite greater lack of infrastructure and staff shortage. Gujarat isbeing targeted for its association with former MCI chief Ketan Desai," said atrustee. Desai had been "dethroned" after being arrested by CBI in a case ofcorruption.
