There has been an increase of 11.62 lakh new voters, taking the total number of voters who can exercise their franchise in the forthcoming assembly election to 4.9 crore.

A release by the CEO said on Monday that the total number of eligible voters for the forthcoming assembly election stands at 4,90,89,765. These include 2,53,36,610 male voters, 2,37,51,738 female voters and 1,417 transgender voters.

The voter roll upgradation programme was taken up by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in June this year. The CEO statement said that according to the final electoral roll date, 4.61 lakh new voters are in the 18-19 age group. Of these, 2.68 lakh are males, and 1.93 lakh are females. About 4 lakh new differently abled persons have also been added to the electoral rolls.

Although it is voluntary, about 76.68 lakh voters have linked their Aadhaar cards with the electoral rolls. The statement added that the office of the CEO had signed MoUs with various government and non-government organisations to encourage people to get themselves enrolled in the electoral rolls.
