Gujarat CM has failed to fulfil his duty: Gohil
AHMEDABAD: Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil demanded that the governor should recommend President's rule in the state as chief minister Narendra Modi has failed to follow his constitutional duty.
Gohil, while talking to reporters here on Monday, said that Modi has failed to appoint lokayukta in the state, which is the constitutional duty of a chief minister. Gohil said that all that Modi has to do is to publish a notification of the appointment of the lokayukta.

Even this, Gohil said, has not been done. Modi has failed to officiate the appointment of Justice S D Dave whose name was forwarded by the Chief Justice of the Gujarat high court and was approved by him in consultation with the governor. He also appealed that under article 355 of the constitution, the governor has the power to make appointment and hence she should use this power and appoint Dave as the lokayukta.
Gohil claimed lokayukta has not been appointed since that person can probe the corrupt practices of Modi and his council of ministers. He said there is no provision in the constitution for any kind of involvement by the chief minister or his cabinet in the appointment of lokayukta. But here, the government is trying to exercise its power by recommending the name for the post of lokayukta.
