Gujarat: Bypolls to be held with Lok Sabha elections

AHMEDABAD: The Election Commission of India, while announcing the general election schedule, said that bypolls for two assembly seats in

Gujarat

- Talala and Unjha - will be held on the same date as the general elections. Talala Congress MLA Bhagwan Barad was disqualified by Gujarat Assembly speaker Rajendra Trivedi earlier this month after being convicted in an illegal mining case. Congress MLA Asha Patel from Unjha had quit the party and joined the BJP in February.


However, there is uncertainty over whether bypolls for the Manavadar and

Dhrangadhra

seats will also be held along with

Lok Sabha

polls. Congress MLAs Jawahar Chavda from Manavadar and Parsottam Sapariya from Dhrangadhra quit on Friday. But the names of these two constituencies does not figure in the list of assembly constituencies where bypolls will be held.
