Ahmedabad: Gujarat won five medals — four gold and a silver — at the recently concluded National pickleball championship in Indore. Sixteen-year-old Rakshika Ravi won the gold medal in the women’s singles category, beating women much senior in age and experience. Purvansh Patel and Dev Shah added another gold in the U-16 boys’ doubles category. In the 35+ age category, Dhiren Patel emerged victorious, clinching the men’s singles gold medal.
He added a silver also in the men’s open singles category. Players from 16 states had participated in the meet. Pickleball is a racquet/paddle sport, combining many elements of tennis, badminton & table tennis.
Parin, Rodricks march ahead in Kutch badminton tourney: Two upsets were recorded on Saturday at the Gujarat state badminton championship 2022 in Gandhidham, Kutch. In the first match, in the U-15 boys singles, Vadodara’s Parin Thakker defeated second seed Ritvik Kanabar 21-16, 21-9 while Zionzuriel Rodricks saw off the challenge of fourth seed Vedant Bangale 21-14, 22-20 in straight sets.
