Granny brands infant with hot iron for dowry
Atiti's grandmother, Kiran Parmar, branded the child with a hot iron to force Atiti's mother Jigisha (25) get more dowry. On May 1, Kiran grabbed a hot iron and singed the infant's arm.

The child, said doctors of a private hospital in Sola, is traumatised by the incident and may have suffered a severe emotional shock.
After the incident, Jigisha fled her in-laws' house in Naroda and took shelter at her parents' home in Sola. She lodged a complaint against her husband Rajesh and in-laws with Naroda police.
Rajesh, his father Narayan, mother Kiran and brother Sandeep have been booked under the Dowry Act and for physical and mental harassment.
When TOI contacted Naroda police on Friday evening, officials said that the four accused in the case have been arrested. "We arrested Jigisha's husband Rajesh, his mother, father and brother in the afternoon and have started questioning them," said LJ Solanki, inspector of Naroda police station.
It was in October 2005 when Jigisha got married to Rajesh, who works in a printing press in Khadia. The couple had a daughter after a year. Trouble started when Rajesh's brother got married and his wife got a hefty dowry with her. The mother-in-law would often compare the two daughters-in-law on the basis of the dowry they had got.
A couple of months back, tired of the torture, Jigisha had lodged a complaint with Naroda police, summoned the family for counselling. But her complaint only angered her in-laws, resulting in the shocking attack on the innocent infant.
