Ahmedabad: A double century by Jay Gohil helped Saurashtra amass a mammoth 492 in the first innings of their
Ranji Trophy match against Assam in Guwahati. Saurashtra added 179 runs on day three to add to the overnight score of 313 for three.
Gohil’s 227 came off just 227 balls and he became first Saurashtra player to score a double ton on Ranji Trophy debut, 16th in the history of the competition.
Parth Bhut scored 49, while Chirag Jani made 32. For Assam, Riyan Parag took four for 119.
At stumps on Thursday, Assam were 115 for one in their second innings, with Kunal Saikia and Rishav Das unbeaten on 55 and 29 respectively. Assam still trail by 91 runs.
Skipper Priyank leads Gujarat fightback against TripuraIn Agartala, the match between Gujarat and Tripura was evenly poised as the former extended their overall lead to 182 with four wickets in hand. Gujarat had scored 271 in their first innings and conceded a lead of 22 to Tripura.
On Thursday, Gujarat began their second innings disastrously and lost first four wickets for 33 but skipper Priyank Panchal followed his first-innings century with a responsible unbeaten 79 to take Gujarat to 204 for six at the stumps on day three. Karan Patel scored 46, while Chintan Gaja was unbeaten on 14.
Rawat, Moliya hit centuries in Baroda’s strong replyShaswat Rawat and Priyanshu Moliya scored centuries as Baroda appeared on track to take the first-innings lead against Odisha in their match in Cuttack. Baroda were 416 for five at the stumps on Thursday, with Moliya and Ninand Rathva unbeaten on 113 and 11 respectively.
In reply to Odisha’s 457, Baroda were 177 for four at one stage, but Moliya and Rawat (135) added 224 runs for the fifth wicket to take the fight to the rivals’ camp.
