AHMEDABAD: The general meeting of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) decided on Friday that schools in the state will issue school leaving certificates (SLC) to secondary and higher secondary students in English along with Gujarati.
It has been decided to notify all secondary and higher secondary schools that the SLC which used to be issued in the local language in Gujarati medium schools will have to be issued in English language as well.

"This has been done considering that GSHSEB students used to face difficulty when they sought admission in schools and colleges in other states, especially when they are applying in foreign universities. They had to get affidavits done as universities abroad do not entertain certificates issues in local languages," said a member.
Meanwhile, the general board also decided to forward the case of starting schools, which will offer secondary and higher secondary classes from 9-12 after primary schools, to the executive committee of GSHSEB.
It was also decided in the general meeting that teachers who have BEd degree and have an experience of 15 years can apply for the post of principal. Those teachers who have a post-graduate degree and seven years' experience too will be eligible for the post. Senior educationist Ravindra Dave was present in the meeting to provide guidance to board members.
