Gujarat University officials said that 210 medals will be given away to 125 students. Of these, 145 medals will be awarded to just 69 girl students.
The officials said the maximum number of students (25,000) to be awarded degrees are from Commerce faculty. Next is Arts faculty with 19,000 students. This is followed by Law faculty with 9989 students, Education faculty with 8000 students and Science faculty with 5000 students who have qualified for award of degrees.
Also, 41 students will be awarded scholarships. Of these, 26 are girls. Dr Ravindra Dave, director (retired), UNESCO Institute of Education, Germany, will be the chief guest at the convocation.
Unlike GTU, Gujarat University invites only gold medallists and meritorious students to attend the convocation. The third convocation of Gujarat Technological University will be on January 16. But unlike last year, only toppers were invited this year.
Those students who were to receive degrees personally will get them only after the convocation is over.
Officials said that this arrangement will prevent ruckus at the convocation and also help the university manage the event smoothly. Acting vice-chancellor Mukul Shah said a meeting was held on Saturday and adequate planning was done to ensure hassle-free convocation.
