AHMEDABAD: A group show, 'Germination' by upcoming artists from all over India was inaugurated at Anayas Art Gallery on Saturday. Artist Amit Ambalal and architect Jitendra Mistry were the guests of honour.
'Germination' is curated by Bharvi Trivedi and Samvedana Vaishya, two city-based artists. In recent years, Ahmedabad's artists have got more exposure to works from other parts of the country, and this show also includes works by artists from cities like Kerala, Bhopal, Delhi and Mangalore.
While Mangalore-based artist Kandan G's Buddha painting has contemporary connotations, works of Basant Bhargava from Bhopal and that of Ahmedabad's Arvind Patel have an abstract palette.
Rakesh Patel from Ahmedabad and Manoj Nayak of Delhi use emotions of children in their works.
In Bharvi's work, texture and form makes an imprint of reality, and she uses the metaphor of boxes for her realization. Samvedana also uses fragile glasses as her reference frame for depicting her truths on the canvas.
Bharat Patani's animals are layered in colours, and yet give the impression of tribal patterns. Many of the artists in the show have nature's permeating influence in their works.
While it is heartening to see artists from different parts of the country coming together, the exposure also raises expectations of the viewers. They want to see a wider range and depth of experiences at such events.
The range included in the show left scope for more expanse and experimentation.
