AHMEDABAD: Four newly-appointed IAS officers have been included in the security arrangements for Rath Yatra, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday. This is the first time that new IAS officers have been included in the security arrangements. Till date, only newly-inducted IPS officers used to be part of the security details of the mega event, which has a history of communal violence.
"The reason behind this move is to coach the IAS officers in the nitty-gritty of such a huge security arrangement. When posted in districts, these IAS officers hold the post of collectors. And, outside police commissionerates, collectors are the head of law and order. In Bhavnagar, Surat and Anand too, Rath Yatras are organized. These events are secured by IAS officers. These officers will be part of the mobile team that will follow the three chariots," said a crime branch official.
