Four chain-snatchers arrested

Four goons were arrested for snatching 20 gold chains from elderly women in areas like Ellisbridge, Naranpura, Navrangpura, Vejalpur and Satellite.

AHMEDABAD: Four goons, two of them in their teens, were arrested on Friday for snatching 20 gold chains from elderly women in areas like Ellisbridge, Naranpura, Navrangpura, Vejalpur and Satellite.
Police said the arrested looters are plumbers by occupation. Vinay Shukla, inspector of Ellisbridge police station said that they had recently arrested Sanjay Gohil, 20, a resident of Saurashtra society in Paldi, when he tried to snatch a gold chain from Hemlata Shah, who resides in Jain Merchant society in Paldi.

"During interrogation, it came to light that Gohil, along with Hitesh alias Nagraj Makwana, 19, Prakash Nagwadia 24, both residents of Saurashtra society and Mukesh Solanki, 19, from Mehnatpura in Ambavadi, had looted about 20 chains from people in the western parts of the city," added Vinay Shukla.
Sub-inspector of Ellisbridge police station DN Patel said that the goons targeted elderly women passing through isolated roads.
"They adopted this modus operandi as the old women cannot chase them," added Patel. Talking to TOI, one of the accused Sanjay said that they took to this crime to fulfil their financial needs.
"Hitesh and I used to snatch the chains while Prakash and Mukesh used to sell them. We used to sell the chains at different jewellery shops in Ambavadi and Manekchowk area," said Sanjay, mastermind of the gang.
