A team of crime branch officials have arrested four persons for the assault on a group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members in October.

AHMEDABAD: A team of crime branch officials have arrested four persons for the assault on a group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members in October. The group had gone to a house in Dariapur on October 26 to rescue cows and calves meant for slaughter.
According to crime branch officials, on October 26, a group of VHP members went to Mai no Otlo area of Moti Baluchavaad on the basis of a tip-off that a large number of cows and calves were being herded there for slaughter.

Working on the information, when the group reached the spot, they encountered local slaughterhouse operators and residents who assaluted them with glass bottles, iron pipes and wooden sticks. Ashok Sharma, vice president of VHP, filed a complaint of assault with Dariapur police officials.
"Working with local police, we got information on the accused including Mohammed Junaid Shaikh, 26, Mohammed Sarfaraz Shaikh, 26, Mushtaq Ali Saiyed, 32 and Mohammed Umar Shaikh, 43, all residents of Dariapur and arrested them from their residences and hiding places. We have also initiated a search for other accused in the case. We are questioning the arrested men about the illegal slaughter business in the area," said a crime branch official.
