AHMEDABAD: In two different operations, crime branch officials arrested five youths involved in chainsnatching incidents. Officials said that together they have confessed to have snatched more than 40 gold chains in the city.
According to the officials, a team led by inspector MD Chaudhary was on watch near Naroda when they got a tip-off on two youths involved in chainsnatching.
They kept a watch and nabbed Kunal Garange, 22, and Akash Indrekar, 21, both residents of Chharanagar on the basis of description.
"We found a gold chain worth Rs 23,000 from them. After some questioning, they confessed that they had snatched it from near SRP camp in Naroda earlier this month. We later seized four other chains worth Rs 1.6 lakh snatched from areas like Sabarmati and Sardarnagar and a new bike without registration number," said police.
The duo operated in areas like Sabarmati, Sarkhej, Bapunagar, Odhav, Rakhial and Naroda and have confessed to more than 37 chainsnatchings in the last one and half years. The duo used to target places like temples and bus stands.
In another incident, Rajkumar Sharma, a resident of Vatva and native of Kota, Rajasthan, was nabbed by a team of crime branch. Sharma along with his accomplice Habib Memon and Fafuk Shaikh, residents of Sarkhej, is involved in more than five chain snatching incidents in Rajasthan. The gang so far has confessed one chain snatching from near
Gujarat University last month, said investigators.
