AFES officials said they received a call reporting fire near the pump at 7.05 pm when the vehicles had caught fire. A team including additional chief fire officer Rajesh Bhatt reached the spot and started operation.

"From primary information, we got to know that there was some drilling work going on near the spot. The place was dangerous as a high-capacity CNG pipeline passes underneath and there are high-tension electric wires passing above," said Bhatt.

"An electric DP is near the spot. We suspect that the drilling might have damaged the pipeline and the escaped gas caught a spark. The vehicles were quickly consumed by flames," said Bhatt.

The gas supply to the pump was closed immediately to prevent any further damage, said AFES officials.
