AHMEDABAD: In a major fire at Arvind Mills' Naroda compound on Wednesday evening, several vehicles, administrative building's furniture and some of the records were damaged. Fire brigade officials fought for 2.5 hours to bring the situation under control.
According to Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) officials, they got a call about the incident at 6.15 pm and five tankers were dispatched immediately.
"The cause of fire is uncertain. In the primary investigation, we can say that it might be due to short-circuit on third floor housing accounting department. The fire has damaged a part of the building, furniture and vehicles parked outside. However, the major loss was administrative records that got damaged in the process," said a fire brigade official from the spot.
According to fire brigade officials, incidents of fire by short-circuit are on a high during the summers.
In another incident, at Sears Towers near Gulbai Tekra, part of a broking firm's office was gutted in fire. "The fire was severe and we had to use breathing apparatus to enter in the smoke-filled rooms. It was found that the fire originated from an air-conditioning unit in the office due to short-circuit," said a fire brigade official. The call came at 4.30 am on Wednesday.
In the primary investigation, the officials got to know that the fire might have started in an air-conditioner unit left running whole night, resulting in overheating of the machine. Majority of the furniture was gutted in the incident, said fire brigade officials.
