FIR for atrocity against employee of automobile firm

AHMEDABAD: Acting on a complaint filed by a Viramgam resident, Vithalpur police registered an

FIR

against an employee of a leading automobile company located in the outskirts of Ahmedabad, under sections of Atrocity Act.

The complainant by Hitesh Sitapara, 25, stated that the accused person, identified as one Maulik Patel, employee of the automobile company, had first demanded Rs5,000 to give him a job of fitter apprentice, but as he could not give him the amount, he uttered caste-based slurs against him and insulted him in the plant of the company on September 9. Sitapara said he had failed the job interview and was approached by Maulik to get him the job if he paid him Rs5,000.

Following the incident, Sitapara approached

police who took application from Sitapara but did not lodge the FIR.

On Monday, Sitapra and dalit rights activists sat on dharna at Viramgam DSP office in

Tower Chowk

area of Viramgam. The FIR was taken on late Monday evening charging the accused under IPC Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and under various sections of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. tnn
